Fire for Effect is an Artillery command which is used when calibrating rounds from a single gun have established the direction and range of the target. The rest of the battery, or the Division’s guns are then ordered to concentrate fire on the enemy.

Jottings and Daubs

I’m putting all my stuff on line. mainly oil paintings, the medium I like to work in, but also some older cartoons and some written work. I’ve spent the last twenty years as a freelance journalist and editor, writing about architectural software, and the latest technology and processes used in the construction industry. Now I intend to explore further, trying new techniques and experimenting a bit. I started painting 50 years ago, but life sort of intervened a bit - and here’s your first lesson - don’t waste your time but find some way to keep painting. I have to learn all over again - not that I had great technique in the past - but I’m a dab hand with polystyrene and chicken wire.

This and That

The gallery contains a number of themes. You can probably tell that my inspiration comes from the impressionist periods - and with no particular artist singled out. You might say I am an artist out of my time. Over time I hope that I can get closer to understanding why their paintings, some conducted with no great skill, make such an impression on people.
I keep on adding stuff to this website. Besides my paintings and writing, I’ve thrown in a selection of cartoons. There’s also a page for Street Art images which have captured my imagination, and the music that inspires me when I work. An eclectic bunch of stuff. Browse through the whole website and see what makes me tick. It’s not all on line, though. Here’s my latest book which is now in print - Kicking the Bucket. To get things moving along, I have also added a Blog - ThisNthat about the subjects behind all of my work. The second blog covers the issues raised in the book. Feel free to contributre.
Charles Fenemore, seeing the descent of his contemporaries into various states dementia and the effect it has on friends and relatives, decides he wants to meet his fate on his own terms. He buys a boat with the intention of sailing into the sunset until he is overtaken by whatever ending life throws at him. His son, his sole confidente, and an inquisitive journalist, both get taken up by his adventure, which, following an encounter with a young female and her former partner, takes a dangerous but interesting turn.

My blog
Posting regularly about everything and anything, but mainly about what’s on this website. May even include a blog or two about mushroom foraging and learning to play the piano (it has a high combo of visual, cerebral and digital stimuli - the things that keep brains ticking over and helping to delay the onset of dementia). Your comments welcome.

The Blog takes you to another website, so

keep a tab open to this page.
