Tarr steps is an ancient stone
bridge on Exmoor. It gets
washed away in storms as trees
coming downstream batter it.
As every stone is numbered, it
can quickly be rebuilt.

Bill’s Shed
Bill is a good friend - a local ornamental blacksmith who still dabbles
in his forge. He built this shed as a retreat in his long riverside
garden. He lives without TV, Computers and mobile phones, but his
life is as complete as anyone ealse I know (More so? That’s a good
debate). Got a painting of him in the studio in the ‘people’ section.

Cleeve Abbey is situated in Washford, 6 miles East of Minehead. The
monastry was one of those partially destroyed by Henry VIII, but parts of
it are still in good condition, including the main hall and the Bishop’s
quarters. It also has a fabulous tiled pavement laid down in 1270 and
which is the only large-scale example of a decorated monastic refectory
floor in Britain
The most picturesque part of the Abbey, though, is the gatehouse. I took
an easel down there, and spent a couple of hours laying out the basics of
painting, took a couple of photos, and finished it off in the studio.
